PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
On behalf of the school’s entire staff, I would like to wish you a Happy New Year full of health and happiness! We’re already half-way through the school year and we still have so much ahead of us. The school yard project, the mural by artist Séguin-Poirier, the trip to Mont-Avila, the upcoming visit of the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie bus, the Grade 5 & 6 Ski class … The next few months are going to be keeping us busy!
We’d like to congratulate Nancy Bourgeois and Geneviève Cardinal, both of whom left us in January to take up positions as vice-principals. Nancy Bourgeois will be replaced by Annie Cheney and Nadine Ewart, while Lesly Orellana will be taking over for Geneviève Cardinal. We will also be welcoming a new special education technician, Stéphane Vincent, who will work at the school three afternoons a week. To all our new staff members, welcome to the school!
The childcare service underwent a few changes that took effect January 7.
From now on, parents have to go to the main entrance to await their child. This change was made in response to consultations with school staff for a number of reasons. Previously, when parents or grandparents arrived, they had to go looking for their children all over the school, which led to interruptions in the activities, and the constant comings and goings also made it difficult to keep the school clean.
Furthermore, we found many adults wandering the corridors, even though the door to the daycare room had an identification code, which gave us reason for concern about your children’s safety. We investigated what was being done at other CSMB schools and we realized that they all had access control systems in place at the entrance.
Although we know that we will need to make a few adjustments at first, we believe that such a system will help develop children’s autonomy, while also empowering them. In the meantime, for the benefit of parents, we have posted the Info-parent newsletter and other information in the waiting area, and have also placed the Lost & Found box there.
Please know that you are always welcome to visit us at the school and that we are always available and open to suggestions. To contact your child’s teachers, the best option is to use his or her agenda. Remember: our main concern is your child’s welfare and safety. Thank you for understanding!

Head LiceSince January, there have been a few cases of head lice at school. It is very important to go through your child’s hair and make sure it’s free of it.
The head louse is a tiny, wingless parasite insect that lives among human hairs and feeds on extremely small amounts of blood drawn from the scalp. Lice aren’t dangerous and they don’t spread disease, but they are CONTAGIOUS and are very annoying. Though they can’t fly or jump, they crawl and cling firmly to hair. They spread mainly through head-to-head contact, but sharing clothing, bed linens, combs, brushes and hats can help pass them along. Lice eggs (called nits) look like tiny yellow, tan or brown dots before they hatch and cannot be removed by brushing nor shaking them off. The adult louse is no bigger than a sesame seed and is grayish – white or tan. If you discover that your child have them, please contact the school staff. |
Lost And found
The lost and found items have been growing into an impressive lot recently. We have installed a large table near the front entrance with all of the items so please come and have a look. You might find something of yours. After January 25th, we will pack and donate everything to a charitable organization.
